(JACKSON, Miss.) – Jackson State University (JSU) is the highest ranked historically
black college and university (HBCU) in the 2023 Rival IQ Higher Education Social Media
Engagement Report. Rival IQ, a leading social media analytics platform, separately ranked every D1 and D2
school based on engagement rates, engagement totals, and posting frequency
across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and Twitter for the ultimate guide to higher education
social media.
“We are proud to be recognized by Rival IQ as a frontrunner in social media engagement among
our peer institutions nationwide, said Alonda Thomas, associate vice president for marketing
and communications. “Our goal is to use our platforms to amplify Jackson State University’s
achievements and share our story of student success, academic prominence and research
excellence with our diverse audience of students, alumni and supporters.”
JSU has made significant strides in the rankings, moving up an impressive 30 spots from #67 to 37 overall among 364 ranked Division 1 schools. In the state of Mississippi, JSU placed second behind the University of Mississippi.

by our peers and industry insiders. This recognition goes a long way in reaffirming that our
methods are successful, and our goals are being reached,” said Spencer McClenty, director of
communications and digital media.
Furthermore, JSU’s social media presence has been particularly strong on Facebook, where it
holds an impressive overall ranking of #11. On Twitter, JSU maintains a commendable position
with an overall ranking of #15.

into the social media performance of educational institutions, providing a benchmark for
success and highlighting areas for improvement.
