Several Jackson State University alums have reason to celebrate after winning their campaigns for political seats throughout Mississippi on June 8.

Melanie Townsend-Blackmon was elected mayor of Drew, Mississippi.

Brian Grizzell was elected to the Jackson City Council, replacing outgoing councilman De’Keither Stamps’ seat. Grizzell will oversee the Highway 80 corridor, which has suffered from neglect due to economic decline over the years.
