Jackson State University names Tony Latiker as dean of the College of Education and Human Development

(JACKSON, Miss.) – Jackson State University, a leader in educator preparation, has appointed Tony Latiker, Ed.D., as dean of the College of Education and Human Development after serving as interim dean for a year. A faculty member and administrator in the college since 2007, Latiker has held roles as associate dean of accreditation and assessment, program coordinator and professor at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

JSU Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Denise Gregory, Ph.D., praised Latiker’s leadership and contributions to educator training.

“Dr. Latiker has been a collaborative leader, bringing faculty together and advancing innovative approaches to educator preparation,” said Gregory. “His commitment to preparing highly qualified teachers and improving educational outcomes will continue to elevate the College of Education and Human Development.”

Latiker specializes in curriculum design and outcomes assessment, with research interests in educational equity, school accountability, teacher quality and qualitative research methodology. He has also led accreditation and program assessment efforts, ensuring continuous improvement in educator preparation programs.

“For close to two decades, I have worked closely with the faculty and staff, and I am eager to continue expanding opportunities for future educators,” said Latiker. “Together, we will strengthen the college’s impact on education and prepare students for meaningful careers in the field.”

Before joining JSU, Latiker was director of teacher and administrator preparation at the Mississippi Department of Education and an adult basic education instructor, teaching mathematics and computer literacy.

A graduate of Tougaloo College, Latiker earned a master’s and doctorate in curriculum and instruction from Oklahoma State University. His leadership reflects JSU’s ongoing commitment to excellence in teacher education and student success.
