It would not be surprising if Jackson State University alum Pamela Confer were really the bionic woman. After reading her very extensive and decorated bio, it is evident why Confer is being recognized for outstanding leadership at the 2016 Girl Scouts Women of Distinction Induction Ceremony, presented by Parents & Kids Magazine and Regions Bank, on Thursday, Sept. 22.
“I am very honored to have been chosen … Growing up a Brownie, then a Girl Scout, I have an affinity for relationships that restore and uplift,” said Confer, director of community and public relations for Nissan North America, Canton.
Graduating with a master’s degree in public policy from Jackson State, Confer is currently at the dissertation stage of her doctoral program at the University. Before serving as the face of Nissan, Confer was a seasoned entrepreneur owning and operating the personal consulting and communications business “Speak Big” for over 16 years.
An accomplished and decorated jazz singer; Confer is not afraid of blazing paths. In 2008, she made history as the “First Woman Constable” of Hinds County. She is also an award-winning clay sharp-shooter making her both a peacekeeper and a trained marksman.
A writer, publicist and wearer of many hats with just as many colorful feathers, Confer edited the book, “Spoken Success: Understanding the Art of Public Speaking,” by Robert Little. She is also the editor of a series of children’s books by Little, including “What CAN I Be,” an Accelerated Reader (AR) book that was nominated for the Coretta Scott King award.
The member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc is fluent in Spanish and has an endless list of accolades to her credit giving true credence to the idea that she has little difficulty climbing mountains or living her life deliberately.
“I walk in my purpose, and I am so grateful to have been born to make a difference. Strong women stand on the shoulders of even stronger women. I passionately, proudly pay it forward,” Confer said.
The Girl Scouts of Greater Mississippi is a leadership development program with over a century of serving communities and is committed to its mission of cultivating girls of courage, confidence and character which change the world for the better.
The association is also lauding the triumphs of Mende Malouf Alford, Dr. Felicia Gavin and Bobbie K. Ware while striving to raise funds and awareness about the benefits and opportunities offered by Girl Scouts of America.
