Dr. Brian Pugh has been named as Top Person of the Year for Mississippi’s Top 50 Under 40 Business Leaders for 2020.

“I was really amazed when I found out about winning this award,” Pugh said. “My former professor and dissertation chair at JSU, Dr. Johnny Gilleylen, called to congratulate me on this honor, and my response to him was, ‘congratulations for what?’. It was really special to find out from him that I was selected for this honor.”

MBJ’s Top 50 Under 40 recognizes 50 of the state’s up-and-coming business leaders under the age of 40. Considered one of the state’s most prestigious awards, it highlights individuals who have made significant contributions to Mississippi’s overall economic progress.

Of the 50 finalists, the group is narrowed down to the Top 10, and of those 10 finalists, the Top Person of the Year is selected.

Pugh is the executive director of the Stennis Center for Public Service. He previously served as deputy executive director of the Mississippi Department of Finance and Administration, as fiscal policy advisor and director of finance for the Governor’s office, and as a legislative budget analyst for the Legislative Budget Office.

Pugh concludes, “I am elated to receive this prestigious award, and also to be such a positive representation for my school, JSU.”
