Jackson State University (JSU) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Tangelia Kelly, as Chief Communications Officer and Executive Director of University Communications. She will also serve on the Executive Cabinet under the leadership of JSU President Dr. Marcus L. Thompson.
“Dr. Kelly’s experience and insight are instrumental as we work to elevate Jackson State’s visibility and impact on a larger scale. Her expertise and perspective are key in reinforcing and promoting our academic brand. I am fully assured that she will continue to uphold and exceed the high standards of excellence she has consistently demonstrated,” said Thompson.
A JSU alumna, Kelly was named interim in May 2024. As permanent, she will continue to lead the award-winning Division of University Communications, which includes creative services, digital media, marketing and public relations.
“I am honored to serve as Chief Communications Officer and Executive Director for University Communications. I am grateful for the opportunity to work under President Thompson’s leadership and alongside my colleagues on the executive team to advance JSU,” said Kelly. “My vision for the division is to harness the exceptional talents of our team to elevate our brand and messaging on both a national and global scale. We will implement strategic initiatives to enhance our efficiency and effectiveness, ensuring our communications uphold ‘Thee Standard’ of excellence that defines JSU.”
Kelly previously served as Director of Marketing in University Communications and brings more than 16 years of experience to her role. Her leadership and successful marketing campaigns and initiatives have led to numerous awards, bolstering JSU’s reputation as a leading 21st-century institution.
Kelly received her bachelor’s degree in marketing from Jackson State University and her Master of Business Administration from Belhaven University. She earned her Ph.D. in educational administration and supervision with a concentration in higher education from Jackson State University. She was also named to the Delta Business Journal’s 2023 Top Young Professionals.
She is a member of several distinguished organizations, including the Leadership Greater Jackson Board of Directors, Junior League of Jackson, American Marketing Association, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., College Public Relations Association of Mississippi, Higher Education Leadership Foundation’s Omicron Cohort, and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education.
