(JACKSON, Miss.) – On November 22, 2023, the Jackson State University (JSU) Division of Alumni and Constituency Relations provided Thanksgiving meals for over 100 JSU students who could not travel home for the university’s observance of fall break and Thanksgiving recess. The dinner was held at the Hilton Garden Inn Jackson Downtown.
“JSU has the best alumni in the country, and I am so thankful that anytime our students are in need, our alumni are always ready to serve,” said David Howard, director of the Division of Alumni and Constituency Relations. “As alumni, we will continue to put our students first and always care for our students as our own.”
JSU’s Division of Student Affairs, community partners, and local alums served dinner, greeted, and conversed with students during the meal.

“We greatly appreciate the kindness and generosity of our alumni. Not every student can travel home for breaks. We are very thankful that our students here will have an early Thanksgiving meal. We appreciate the opportunity to partner with alumni affairs for this special event for our students,” said Vice President of Student Affairs Fran’Cee Brown-McClure, Ph.D.
Sponsors and partners include the Word of Life Poindexter, ArX Realtor, and the JSU GAP Fund. Previously, Pastor Robert Berry from the Word of Life Poindexter provided sponsorship during the JSU Move-In Day and fed members of the Sonic Boom of the South Marching Band.
“We want to grow stronger alumni-to-student connections. So, in addition to giving financially, we also want our alumni to engage with our students through volunteering, mentoring, and providing jobs and internships,” Howard said.
