JSU employees from several departments pitched in to adopt students from Blackburn Middle School’s Angel Tree. The goal of this annual holiday project is to provide new toys, clothing, requested desires and essentials to children in need.
Dr. Heather Denné, director of the Center for University-Based Development, said, “Giving is one of the many kind acts from so many people during the holiday season. We encouraged people to give cheerfully and also realize that they are making a momentous impact on these children’s lives.”
She added, “JSU along with the Jackson Public School District wanted to ensure that these deserving children have an enjoyable holiday season. We want to show these families that even amid a pandemic we still care.”
The three other entities that adopted students from the Angel Tree were the Mississippi Museum of Art, Hemingway Circle Neighborhood and Pecan Tree Park Neighborhood.

“Due to the pandemic, a lot of families are in a great financial need this year. The students and their families are really appreciative that people care about them enough to continue the Angel Tree project every year,” Denné said.
