JSU infielder Rodriguez named to SWAC All-Tournament Team

The Ferriss Trophy is presented annually to the most outstanding college baseball player in Mississippi. It will be awarded May 18 at a luncheon at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum.
JSU senior baseman Melvin Rodriguez is a leading hitter in NCAA Division I.

Jackson State’s senior second baseman Melvin Rodriguez has received another postseason honor. He was named May 17 to the 2015 Southwestern Athletic Conference All-Tournament Team, following the conference championship game in New Orleans.

Rodriguez was also a finalist for the 12th annual C Spire Ferriss Trophy. He is the leading hitter in NCAA Division I baseball and is second in the country in batting average, sacrifice flies and third in RBIs.

The Ferriss Trophy is presented yearly to the most outstanding college baseball player in Mississippi.

The second baseman from Manati, Puerto Rico, has a .439 batting average with 93 hits (20 doubles, three triples and seven home runs) and 64 RBIs. He has a .962 fielding percentage.

During JSU’s run in the SWAC Tournament, Rodriguez went 4-for-18 at the plate. He led the team with two doubles to go along with two runs.
