Jackson State University is celebrating Black History Month on Monday (Feb. 16) with a panel discussion featuring Jackson Mayor Tony Yarber and other top state and local leaders.

Titled African-Americans and Education: The Current Status and Future Directions in Education in Mississippi, the free event from 4-6 p.m. at the Student Center Theater is hosted by the College of Education and Human Development.
“Join us for a robust conversation,” said Deidre L. Wheaton, coordinator of Social Science Education and assistant professor of Interdisciplinary Studies.
In addition to Yarber, included on the panel are: Associate State Superintendent of Education Dr. Jean Massey; Superintendent of Jackson Public Schools Dr. Cedrick Gray; Chief Academic Officer for Greene Education Services Dr. Theresa Green; and Executive Director of the Mississippi Urban Research Center Dr. Melvin Davis.
