Jackson State University Media Relations Specialist Jim Ewing is a featured speaker at the Mississippi Food Summit Nov. 7-9 at the Mississippi Agriculture and Forestry Museum in Jackson.
He will be speaking at noon Friday, Nov. 7, on “The State of Sustainable Agriculture in a Big Ag State.”
Afterward, he will be signing his book, Conscious Food: Sustainable Growing, Spiritual Eating (Findhorn Press, 2012).
“One of the many things I’m excited about at JSU are the plans for an urban community garden,” said Ewing, who also serves on the board of directors of the Mississippi Urban Forest Council. “I’m a big supporter of urban food systems, particularly ones that employ permaculture and other sustainable growing methods.”
A former organic farmer, Ewing serves on the governing board of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Southern Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SSARE) program. He is former president of the Mississippi Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association, and serves on several other agriculture-related boards.
Sponsored by the Mississippi Sustainable Agriculture Network, the Summit begins Friday with food system and sustainable agriculture professionals meeting and holding workshops.
