JSU experts enhance writing abilities of students in Mississippi

For several months, two distinguished writing experts at Jackson State University have been enlisting ideas from instructors at every educational level to improve writing skills of Mississippi students.

Dr. Lawrence T. Potter Jr., professor of English, and Dr. Kathi Griffin, director of the Richard Wright Center, are on the planning committee for the Transitioning to College Writing Symposium, Oct. 11-14, at the University of Mississippi in Oxford.

Aside from JSU experts, the event also will include keynote speakers from the Mississippi Department of Education, Itawamba Community College, Virginia, and as far away as Australia.

Topics will include digital composition, academic writing, student engagement and steps to developing a writing center.
