“The Jackson State University family is saddened to learn of the untimely death of DeAngelo Gant Brown, a 2014 graduate in the Healthcare Administration program in what is now the School of Public Health, former member of the Sonic Boom of the South and former recruiter with the JSU Office of Undergraduate Recruitment. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time,” said JSU President Carolyn W. Meyers.
“DeAngelo was a bright young man with a promising future. He was an outstanding ambassador for JSU who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.”
Gant Brown, 24, was found dead Saturday morning in the Twin Cinema parking lot in Yazoo City, according to police. Police are awaiting autopsy results to determine how Brown died.
Gant Brown’s aunt said he had planned to come home to Jackson to be with his family in the wake of his cousin’s death in a recent hit-and-run crash. At the time of his death, Brown was employed by Alabama State University as a recruiter.
A candlelight vigil in remembrance of Gant Brown will be held at Plaza Cinema in Yazoo City on Friday, Feb. 12 at 6:30 p.m.
The Counseling Center is open to assist members of the JSU family who need support.
