JSU featured on cover of ‘high end’ Jackson coffee table book

If you’re looking for a high-end gift for the holiday season, something to show off your pride in Jackson State or give to a diehard JSU alum, then you’re in luck with the new book Jackson: Photographs by Ken Murphy.

LemuriaBook

Published by Lemuria Books, the 183-page large format book shows scenes around Jackson, including the entrance to JSU.  The book has covers for four main local sites: the Lamar Life Building (the standard cover), the Welty House, Fondren Corner, and Lemuria Bookstore.

But to honor JSU as a local institution, Lemuria owner John Evans also ran off a limited number of JSU covers. Each of the JSU books is signed by the author. The price is $75.

The special JSU covers just arrived this week, Evans said. They were much anticipated and due to their limited availability, might not stay in stock long.

The book is meant as a snapshot of how the city appears today. Both older and younger Jacksonians will recognize certain landmarks as part of their growing up years.

“While Jacksons culture is rooted in the past, the city is evolving with many major enhancements and physical changes in the making. This book may serve as the last documentation of what is as we move into what will be,” Evans says in the foreword to the book.

Lemuria Books is located at Banner Hall, 4465 I-55 North, off I-55 north at the Northside Drive Exit. Hours are 8 am – 7 pm (Mon – Sat); 10:30 am – 3 pm (Sun). Phone: 601.366.7619
