Jackson State University students were well represented at the recent Annual Men of Color conference and won first place in an oratorical competition.

Accompanied by Career Services Coordinator Jeremy Hodge and Veterans Center Director Timothy Abram, 37 male JSU students attended the event titled Global Competitiveness: Exploring Pathways Toward Academic Attainment.

There, they networked with students from various universities, top academic leaders and representatives from Fortune 500 companies.

Students from 15 institutions vied in the oratorical contest at Mississippi State University, but “thanks to the talents of freshman biology major Eric Hobson, we were able to bring home the gold,” said Hodge.  “Eric wowed and captivated the judges as well as the audience with his oratorical skills and confidence.”

“As a career services professional, I can truly say that these young men displayed a level of professionalism that tells me that they are ready to embark upon the professional world.  It all also confirms that we at Jackson State University are producing holistic career-ready young men for the competitive workforce,” Hodge said.
