JSU Head Coach Tony Hughes to speak at Jackson Touchdown Club on Oct. 10

Jackson State Head Football Coach Tony Hughes will be the featured speaker at the Jackson Touchdown Club Presented by C Spire on Monday, Oct. 10, at 6 p.m. at the River Hills Club at the intersection of Ridgewood Road and Lakeland Drive.

Hired as the Jackson State Tigers head coach in December, 2015, Hughes is in his first season as a collegiate head football coach.

The Forest, Miss., native joined the coaching ranks when he was honorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps where he served from 1981 to 1984. He coached in the Mississippi prep ranks at Philadelphia (1985), South Natchez (1986-1987) and Hattiesburg (1988-1991) before entering collegiate coaching arena at West Alabama.

Hughes led the secondary at West Alabama from 1992-93 and then began a 10-year coaching stint at Hinds Community College from 1994 to 2002. He coached two seasons at Louisiana Tech from 2003 to 2004 before coaching at the University of Mississippi from 2005 to 2007. After coaching one season at Southern Miss in 2008, he joined the staff at Mississippi State, where he became known as one of the top recruiting coordinators in the nation.
