JSU Homecoming parade relocates downtown; rap concert is another premium highlight

[hr]JSU DOWNTOWN PARADE ROUTEJackson State University’s Homecoming parade will weave through downtown this year, starting at 8 a.m. Saturday, with NFL Hall of Famer Robert Brazile as the grand marshal.

Brazile, who was nicknamed “Dr. Doom,” played with the Houston Oilers. He was inducted into the JSU Sports Hall of Fame in 2003. To learn more, click BRAZILE.

This year’s parade route will begin at Court and State streets and proceed north on State Street to East Pearl Street (left). Then, it will move to S. West Street (left) and return to Court and State streets. (See map of downtown parade route)

Other homecoming festivities:

  • 6 p.m. Wednesday: Homecoming Step Show in the Lee. E. Williams Athletics and Convention Center (Doors open at 5 p.m.; Tickets available at JSU Campus Store)
  • 7 p.m. Thursday: Rap artists Lil Baby and LightSkinKeisha will be the featured concert entertainment in the Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center. (Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets available for students in the JSU Business Office, and JSU Campus Store for others).
  • 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday: Yard Fest connects JSU, alumni and community for a celebration involving The Sonic Boom, cheerleaders, JSU Dance Ensemble, DJ, food trucks and more on the Gibbs-Green Plaza.
  • 2 p.m. Saturday: JSU Tigers go head-to-head against Alabama State University during its Homecoming football game at the Mississippi Veterans memorial Stadium.
