Jackson State University Mass Communications faculty member Dr. Monica Flippin-Wynn has been featured in the national educational blog Pearson North America.

The blog post, titled “A Brave New World,” profiles Flippin-Wynn, an assistant professor, who teaches TV Documentary, Media Management and Research Methods in Mass Communications. She has taught at JSU since 2009.
But being profiled in the blog made her “super excited,” Flippin-Wynn said.
The blog traces Flippin-Wynn’s experience as a television assignment editor, a producer, and in public relations, but focuses on her teaching methods.
Noting JSU’s leadership in CyberLearning and its iPad initiative in 2011, the blog quotes Flippin-Wynn about making the transition to Internet devices and social media.
“With wireless Internet access, mobile devices, and social media tools, Flippin-Wynn can hold class anywhere, even the campus Starbucks,” the blog says
“On the first day of class, Flippin-Wynn has each student take a selfie, tag the photo with his or her student ID number, and share it on Instagram. She uses this as a simple way to take attendance. Not only do the students enjoy it, but it saves her time and paper. From there, students use Google tools like Docs and Drive for file sharing and collaboration. … This immediacy and transparency helps ensure students are prepared and accountable for their work. Similarly, wikis host the class syllabus and the class calendar, so students can view their assignments anywhere they have an Internet connection . . .
