JSU moves up a spot in 2017 best historically black colleges and universities ranking

JSU_5035Jackson State University captured the number 15 spot out of 74 historically black colleges and universities according to the U.S. News & World Report for higher education and education quality. The University continues to outrank all other schools in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) as it moves up from last year’s number 16 spot.

Key measures used in the assessment included graduation and retention rates, peer assessment, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, admission test scores, and the number of freshmen in Top 25 percent of high school class standing among other graded indicators.

According to the fact sheet of “frequently asked questions” by U.S. News, “The rankings of the schools that arise from these data – serve as an objective guide by which students and their parents can compare the academic quality of schools.”
