JSU music student wins Emerging Artists Award

Jackson State University student Ryan Nunnery was selected as the 2013 winner of the Emerging Artists Award.

“Congratulations on a well-deserved honor,” wrote College of Liberal Arts dean Dr. Lawrence T. Potter, Jr. “This honor will benefit your continued growth as an emerging artist.”

Nunnery, an Oakland, Calif., native and tennis enthusiast, says that this is just the beginning for him. “My plans are to continue my education and earn a master’s degree in music performance. After earning my masters, I plan to continue on and earn my Ph.D. Afterwards, I want to go back and earn my degree in music education and another in business.”

Also a former member of the Oakland Youth Orchestra and Music for Excellence Orchestra, Nunnery desires to give back to his community by creating a music program for youth and teaching music at his alma mater.
