Jackson State University has been named a 2015 “Military Friendly” school by Victory Media.
The list honors the top 15 percent of colleges, universities, and trade schools that are doing the most to embrace America’s military service members and to ensure their success on campus.
There are more than 370 veterans and military students on campus and this number is growing, according to Tim Abram, director of the JSU Veterans and Military Center.
“We are actively recruiting military students at local and regional military installations,” Abram said. “We target armed forces veterans, military service members and dependents.”
In addition to JSU’s various degree programs and flexible course offerings, there are various on- and off-campus connections for military students, Abram said. From recruitment to graduation, JSU provides additional support services for military and veteran students for a smooth transition from military to student life.
“JSU is dedicated to ensuring that each veteran and military student receives the benefits (he or she) deserves,” said Kimberly Jones-Ward, JSU benefits and programs counselor at the Veterans and Military Center.
The 2015 list of Military Friendly Schools was compiled through assessment of criteria determined by Victory media and an Independent Academic Advisory Board.
