In recognition of the Tom Joyner Foundation selecting Jackson State University as its School of the Month, we will be highlighting a JSU Hercules Scholar each week.

The Hercules Scholarship is named after radio show host Tom Joyner’s father, the late Hercules Joyner, who was a strong supporter of higher education.
This week’s student is:
Christian Williams
Grade Point Average: 3.8
Hometown: Memphis, Tenn.
Major: Business
Class: Freshman
Career Goal: Undecided
Comment: My post graduation plans at this moment are undecided, but I feel as though, if I stay prepared, God will reveal what he wants me to do with my education.
If I stay productive as a student and continue my education after graduation, I have extreme faith that the right opportunity will present itself.
I currently hold the position of president of my dorm, Alexander East Hall, and am involved in the Residence Hall Association that hosts events on campus. I’m also a member and business manager of a group by the name of 7th Theory that dedicates its time toward serving the community, setting a positive example for black youth, and spreading the love for African-American culture through music and art.
My Father in heaven and my father at home are the most influential in my life. God keeps the love in my heart and my father has always educated me about the mistakes he has made and reminds me that I don’t have to make the same mistakes. Ferris Williams is my confidante. I live by many words but the motto that has impacted my life the most is simply to live by faith and understanding.
To be a candidate for the scholarship, students must be male, attend a Foundation “School of the Month,” have a grade point average of at least 3.5, and be a campus leader involved in the community with a career goal toward making a difference in the quality of life for his race.
The scholars each receive a scholarship grant of $1,500 that is paid directly to their schools to help offset their college expenses.
February is Black History Month and a great time to for alumni, friends and supporters of JSU to show their commitment.
JSU will be promoted on the Tom Joyner Morning Show during the month of February. The Foundation will be accepting donations to help build a better future for JSU.
