The Beta Kappa Chi Scientific Honor Society elected three Jackson State University students to its national executive board during the 71st Joint Annual Meeting with the National Institute of Science in Houston, Texas.
“I am very proud of the students. They exhibit high academic and leadership excellence,” said Terrence Wright, JSU assistant biology professor and Beta Kappa Chi Honor Society chapter leader. He credited President Carolyn W. Meyers and Provost Dr. James C. Renick for their excellent leadership and generous support to the honor society.

Grace White, a junior biology pre-health major, was elected as vice president for the South Central Region. She will represent all local chapters in the South Central Region including Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi in the national executive board. She also is a liaison between the national chapter and the local chapters.
White is an honors student in the W. E. B. Du Bois Honors College and a dean’s list scholar. She also is a Louis Stokes Mississippi Alliance for Minority Participation Program (LSMAMP) Scholar.

Danita Lee, a senior chemistry major, was elected national treasurer of the Beta Kappa Chi Scientific Honor Society, where she holds responsibilities concerning the the national chapter.
Lee is a member of The National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers, American Chemical Society and Pre-Health Society. She is also a scholar for Partnership for Research and Education in Materials.
Devin Stewart, a junior biology pre-dental major, was elected national historian of the national Beta Kappa Chi Scientific Honor Society. He will be responsible for studies and writing about the history of the Beta Kappa Chi Scientific Honor Society.
Stewart is a 2014 recipient of the “Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities” Award. He also is an honors student in the W.E.B. Du Bois Honors College. He has been inducted into numerous honor societies including Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society and Beta Beta Beta National Biological Honor Society. He is also a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

Founded in 1923, the Beta Kappa Chi Scientific Society is a collegiate honor society dedicated to the promotion of high scholarship in pure and applied sciences. A member of the Association of College Honor Societies since 1961, Beta Kappa Chi now comprises 67 chapters at colleges and universities across the United States, with over 66,000 members.
The society publishes the Beta Kappa Chi Bulletin and a booklet of information. It also sponsors and encourages a variety of program activities through local chapters and conducts an annual national convention.
