The Jackson State University Division of Athletics will hold its third annual “Breakfast of Champions” event to honor its scholar student-athletes, who earned at least a 3.0 grade point average through the summer of 2014.

A total of 137 Tigers and Lady Tigers will be recognized during a breakfast ceremony on Feb. 12 at 8:30 a.m. in the JSU Student Center Ballroom, according to Wesley Peterson, manager of the JSU Sports Media Office.
The guest speaker of the event will be university’s Associate Provost/Student Affairs Dr. Charles Smith.
All JSU 18 sports are represented. The team breakdown is as follows: baseball, 14; men’s basketball, 5; women’s basketball, 5; bowling, 3; football, 34; men’s golf, 2; women’s golf, 1; women’s soccer, 16; softball, 10; men’s tennis, 6; women’s tennis, 4; men’s track, 11; women’s track, 1; and volleyball, 8.
Of the 137 student-athletes, four recorded a perfect 4.0 GPA, 58 finished between the 3.5-3.99 range and 75 recorded between a 3.0-3.49.
Each student-athlete will receive a commemorative Wheaties – Breakfast of Champions cereal box with the group picture of the 3.0 student-athletes added to the box.
Last year, JSU led the list with the number of student-athletes maintaining a 3.0-plus GPA in the Southwest Athletic Conference (SWAC) while competing in their respective sports, according conference officials.
