JSU to hold special commencement ceremony for graduating football athletes

Fall commencement to be held at 8 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 8

(JACKSON, Miss.) – Jackson State University will hold a special commencement ceremony for some graduating athletes and band members at 4:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 7 at the JSU Student Center. The special ceremony became necessary once the Jackson State football team earned a spot in the Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship Game that will take place at noon, Saturday, Dec. 8 in Birmingham.

“We are so proud of our team for winning in the classroom and on the football field,” said Jackson State University President Carolyn W. Meyers, Ph.D. “By earning their college degrees, they have put academics first. By earning an opportunity to play for a conference title, they have proven that with hard work, anything is possible.”

Other graduating seniors participating in the championship game will be allowed to march during the spring commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 4.

The fall commencement ceremony will be moved to 8 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 8 at the Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center.
