(JACKSON, Miss.) – The Jackson State University College of Science, Engineering and Technology will host the Ninth International Symposium on Recent Advances in Environmental Health Research Sept. 16-19 at the Jackson Marriott Hotel in Jackson.
The symposium is a contribution to global research and education in the field of environmental science and public health. Its overarching objective is to promote interdisciplinary discussions and international scientific collaborations, as well as to increase awareness of important environmental and public health issues facing Mississippi, the nation, and the global community.
A pre-symposium workshop on the use of the National Library of Medicine web-based Resources for Environmental Health and Biomedical Research is scheduled for Sept. 16 on the JSU campus in the John A. Peoples Building – Room 118.
This year’s event is built upon the successes of previous symposia that each attracted about 250 participants from 20 different countries representing all five continents. The scientific program is composed of seven plenary sessions during which 46 invited speakers will deliver presentations. In addition, there will be two poster sessions – one for faculty and professional scientists, and one for students – with more than 160 abstracts.
Both plenary lectures and poster presentations will deal with such topics as environmental toxicology and health risk assessment; nanoscience, nanotechnology and nanotoxicology; emerging issues in computational biology and environmental modeling; environmental geology and human health; new frontiers in environmental health research; natural resources damage assessment and management; and health disparities and environmental security.
“As in previous years, we are very excited about this international conference, and believe that it provides a strong forum to communicate the latest advances in scientific research and new developments on issues related to environmental quality and human health,” said Paul B. Tchounwou, Ph.D., symposium chair and interim dean of the College of Science, Engineering and Technology. ”It also provides an excellent opportunity for our students to present their research, interact with world-class scientists, and develop new research ideas.”
The conference papers will be peer-reviewed for consideration for publication in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, IJERPH (ISSN 1660-4601 – Impact Factor: 1.605) in Basel, Switzerland. Detailed information on IJERPH can be obtained at www.ijerph.org.
