The International Visitors Center of Jackson at Jackson State University will host 10 guests from Iraq who are visiting the United States under the auspices of the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program. The visit will take place August 18-22.

Through this program, current and emerging foreign leaders in a variety of fields experience the United States firsthand and cultivate lasting relationships with their American counterparts, supporting the foreign policy goals of the United States.

While these guests are here, the International Visitor Center of Jackson will schedule meetings with federal, state, and local professionals.  The following themes will be addressed during their visit:  Civil rights and the African-American community in the south, independent judiciary and rule of law, and the role of religion in working for peace and civic activism to promote equality.

Each year more than 5,000 international visitors come to the U.S. through the International Visitor Leadership Program. More than 200,000 have engaged with Americans, including more than 330 current or former chiefs of state or heads of government.

The International Visitors Center was established in 1986. It is the only center for international visitors on the campus of a historically black college or university.
