At Jackson State University, connectivity has never been more convenient. Wireless internet access is now available in every building on campus.
This campus-wide wireless plan was birthed through the iPad Technology Advantage Scholarship Initiative that provides all first-time, full-time JSU freshman with an iPad to assist in their learning.
“Over the past few years we set up hot spots because people see it as a convenience,” says Michael Robinson, director of Computing and Communications. “Now we wanted to make sure that all iPad recipients had wireless connections.”
After testing and strengthening current connections as well as creating new ones, this goal has been accomplished. Wireless internet access is now available in all classrooms, as well as other areas that students congregate, such as the Student Center, cafeteria, and the Gibbs-Green Pedestrian Walkway.
“The whole campus is now covered,” says Robinson. “We have even provided connectivity at the soccer field. We plan to cover the softball field and tennis courts in the next 30 days.”
Robinson also shared details on the new secure network portal that will be implemented. Connectivity is currently available to everyone, but once the new network is approved, users will be required to use authentication credentials to log on.
