Jackson State University’s University Communications team successfully snagged four first-place honors and a total of 11 awards at the annual College Public Relations Association of Mississippi (CPRAM).

JSU’s University Communications team showcased their excellence in competing against other state institutions, including the University of Mississippi, Mississippi State University, Alcorn State University, and the University of Southern Mississippi.

“The recent CPRAM awards reflect our communications team’s hard work, creativity, and dedication. These accolades reaffirm our strategic efforts and commitment to excellence as storytellers for Jackson State University,” said Tangelia Kelly, Ph.D., interim executive director of University Communications. “Winning motivates us to continue pushing the envelope and striving for even greater success.”

CPRAM, a consortium of public relations professionals from Mississippi’s public and private colleges and universities, as well as affiliated education agencies, recognizes outstanding achievements in communications and provides professional development opportunities for public relations professionals across the state.

Brandon Thompson, senior graphic designer for University Communications, expressed his excitement about the awards. “It’s fulfilling to show my team that I still have what it takes,” he said. “I enjoy the competition and the recognition for our hard work is truly rewarding. It’s great to hear appreciation from my team and it motivates us to aim even higher next year.”

JSU, noted for being Mississippi’s only urban research university, was honored in several categories for its outstanding creative work. First-place awards include:

  • Advertisements (print media only)
  • Digital media art/photo illustration
  • Single piece of artwork-sports
  • Sports media guide

These achievements showcase JSU’s programs and initiatives, encouraging increased engagement and support from alumni, partners, and stakeholders.

Kelly’s outlook for the future is bright as she anticipates continued innovation and creative success, stating, “I am thrilled about the innovative spirit and diverse skills of our University Communications team. Their consistent production of high-quality work that engages our audience is remarkable. I see this talent pushing us to find new and creative ways to share JSU’s story, enhancing our impact and positioning us as leaders in higher education communication.”
