JSU welcomes delegation from Yangzhou University in China

照片 124Jackson State University welcomes a group of 17 English professors from Yangzhou University in China as they participate in a five-week training session in the areas of English as a Second language, Teaching and Research Methodology, British and American/African Literatures and Applied Linguistics.

The group arrived on July 16 and will depart on Aug. 20. The project is led by Dr. Thomas Calhoun, associate vice president for Academic Affairs, and coordinated by Dr. Lawrence Potter, dean of the College of Liberal Arts;  Dr. Jean Chamberlain, chair of Department of English and Modern Foreign Languages;  Adrienne Graham from the Division of International Studies; Dr. Hongtao Yu, chair of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry; Dr. Dianne Everett from Division of Academic Affairs; Shirley Harrison, executive director of International Visitors Center of Jackson and Dr. Jianjun Yin from the College of Education and Human Development.

Yangzhou University was established in 1992 as a merger of six colleges: Teachers College of Yangzhou, Agricultural College of Jiangsu, Engineering College of Yangzhou, Medical College of Yangzhou, Water Conservancy Engineering College of Jiangsu and Business School of Jiangsu. YZU is one of several institutions of Higher Learning in China that has partnered with JSU through a Memorandum of Understanding. YZU currently serves over 34,000 full-time undergraduate students, 8,400 graduate students and 11,000 students of continuing education.
