The Jackson State University Development Foundation has appointed alumnus Brian Johnson as board vice-chair and chairman-elect.
“I appreciate the confidence my fellow board colleagues have placed in me to assist with guiding this great organization to continued excellence,” Johnson said. “My responsibilities for this role are enormous, but my passion for JSU and JSUDF are equally great and will remain imperative as we continue to build on the significant progress the foundation has achieved over past years.”
Prior to this role, Johnson served as board member and treasurer. His appointment began on July 1.
“In my new role, I am most anticipating working with a diverse, talented and dedicated team of professionals who will continue to be the light for future generations of JSU students,” Johnson said. “I am also looking forward to working with fellow board members, President Hudson, University administration, faculty, staff, alumni, elected officials, community partners and other stakeholders.”
Johnson currently serves as senior vice president of Fisher Brown Bottrell. It is the 44th largest property and casualty insurance agency in the U.S. with locations in Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Tennessee and Texas.
Additionally, he has a passion for volunteerism and serves extensively through philanthropy and membership in numerous organizations.

He earned a B.S. in business administration from Alcorn State University and a Master’s of Business Administration from JSU.
Johnson is also a graduate of Leadership Greater Jackson and Leadership Mississippi, a Top 50 under 40 Leading Business Leader by Mississippi Business Journal and named 2017, 2019 and 2020 Insurance Business Magazine’s Top 100 Insurance Advisors in America.
Johnson said, “I am immensely indebted to the faculty of JSU’s College of Business for preparing me for a world stage. I consider it a blessing to give back to an institution that has given so much to me.”
Johnson and his wife, Christina, have a daughter, Nova. They reside in the Jackson metro area and are members of Redeemer Presbyterian Church.
