JSU’s Dean of Graduate Studies McDaniels joins prestigious CGS Master’s Advisory Committee

(JACKSON, Miss.) – Jackson State University’s Preselfannie McDaniels, Ph.D., dean of the Division of Graduate Studies, has been invited to join the Council of Graduate Schools (CGS) Master’s Advisory Committee. This invitation positions her among the leading professionals in the nation who are committed to advancing the best practices in graduate education and research.

“It’s truly an honor to receive an invitation to this esteemed committee. It validates the hard work and dedication we’ve been putting into our roles, and it’s uplifting to see our efforts being recognized at such a high level,” McDaniels said.

The Council of Graduate Schools fulfills its mission by engaging in policy advocacy, conducting groundbreaking research, and creating and sharing best practices. As a member of the Master’s Advisory Committee, McDaniels will contribute to ensuring JSU’s Division of Graduate Studies receives all essential resources, including research support, funding opportunities, and extensive survey data.

Members of the Council of Graduate Schools’ Master’s Advisory Committee offer the opportunity to connect with a dynamic network that supports and enhances graduate education across various institutions and organizations.

McDaniels emphasized the importance of staying on top of industry developments  and adapting programs to meet demands.

“It is vital for us to stay current and make informed decisions to ensure they align with industry demands and make our graduates’ education relevant for their entire lives. We’re committed to ensuring our programs provide the appropriate classes, professional development, and internship opportunities, all geared at preparing our students for their future careers.”

 McDaniels has been instrumental in enhancing student experiences from start to finish. She has focused her efforts on quality enhancement, funding, and program review and advocating for the success and preparedness of graduate students.

McDaniels shared that her commitment to enhancing funding for graduate students has been a priority. She is urging faculty to include student funding in their grant proposals. “We aim to increase funding possibilities for our graduate students in any way we can,” she stated.

With her invitation to the CGS Master’s Advisory Committee, McDaniels will play a key role in further improving the quality of graduate studies theses and dissertations for the remaining academic year 2023-2024.

Additionally, McDaniels aspires to leave a lasting impact through her leadership. 

“I hope people will remember my leadership as a servant leader who worked alongside those I led. I wish to be remembered as a connector, someone who links people with the resources they need to succeed, whatever those resources may be,” she said.

Members of the Council of Graduate School Master’s Advisory Committee are selected based on their active involvement in professional development opportunities, their contributions to survey data, and their overall eagerness to proactively participate in committee activities.
