[hr]Jackson State University Research Centers in Minority Institution Center for Environmental Health (RCMI-CEH) has earned a whopping $2.3 million supplemental funding award.

Since its birth in 1998, RCMI has evolved into a “center of excellence,” attempting to reach its goal of developing a more comprehensive infrastructure to strengthen the capacity to conduct environmental health and health disparities.
According to the principal investigator, Dr. Paul Tchounwou, the new funds supplied will help with achieving their goal.
“We are very delighted to receive this administrative supplement from the National Institutes of Health. The financial support will help us tremendously to strengthen our biomedical research infrastructure. It will also provide a unique opportunity for capacity-building and science-based strategies for controlling and/or preventing environmentally induced diseases such as cancer, diabetes and other chronic illness,” said Tchounwou, JSU’s associate dean of the College of Science, Engineering and Technology.
Through the years, the RCMI-CEH has significantly contributed to the development of state-of-the-art biomedical research infrastructure at JSU. Scientific discoveries made at the center are making significant impact on the understanding of how environmental hazards affect humans.
