JSU welcomes home 2012 Olympian Michael Tinsley

Jackson State University welcomes home alumnus Michael Tinsley, who earned a silver medal in the 2012 Summer Olympic games.  Tinsley will arrive at JSU at noon Oct. 18, and will make several appearances on campus and in the community on Oct. 18 and 19. He also will be one of the grand marshals in the JSU Homecoming Parade, which starts at 9 a.m. Oct. 20.

Tinsley, who competed in the 400-meter hurdles, finished with a personal best of 47.91 seconds.

Tinsley said being a student at Jackson State was the best experience of his life.

“I remember all the support I got from the faculty when I was there,” he said. “JSU gave me an opportunity to get an education and to do what I love to do, which is run track.”

During his visit to Jackson, Tinsley will make appearances on the Gibbs-Green Pedestrian Walkway and at Blackburn Middle School and will take part in a press luncheon at noon Oct. 19 at the Penguin Restaurant. For more information, call University Communications at 601-979-2272.
