Jackson State University student Kyle Kidd has been awarded the 2016 National Conference on Student Leadership Scholarship.

This scholarship is very significant because only 10 were awarded throughout the country, and out of that 10, only three were African-American. Not only that, but Kidd was the only person chosen from JSU, as well as the only student that attended an HBCU.

Kidd, a junior mass communications major in the School of Journalism and Media Studies, will visit Orlando, Nov. 17-20, to participate in the National Conference on Student Leadership with students all over the country. The JSU National Alumni Association has agreed to help fund his travel and lodging expenses.

Serving as vice president of programming for the Campus Activities Board, Kidd has had many accomplishments in a short span of time. He is the first student at JSU to write for the HBCU Buzz and CampusLATELY (a black college news and entertainment source). As well, he’s a collegiate sports editor for Black Beat Sports.

Kidd said the scholarship is one of his proudest moments at Jackson State, considering he transferred just last semester.
