Celebration and excitement surrounds the launch of a new programming lineup by JSUTV and WJSU-FM (88.5) featuring local news, local personalities, local interests and local issues. The official kick-off was a collaborative event hosted by JSU Digital Media on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014, at the Mississippi e-Center@JSU.

More than 100 attendees got a “sneak-peek” at the star attraction of the new lineup “Metro Mornings Live!” which will offer viewers a chance to wake up informed and entertained each weekday morning. Hosts Rob Jay, Maura Moed and Edward St. Pé will provide comprehensive look at local, state and national news and weather along with interviews of metro area guests who will discuss topics and events of local interest.

Other shows that promise to become fan favorites include a sketch comedy series, “The LaVale Comedy Show” and “Reel-2-Reel,” which showcases original films. Area native son and outdoor enthusiast Shambeni Watts will also join the new lineup. Lawmakers, faculty, staff, students and community members who were present enjoyed a behind-the scenes tour and meeting media personalities including JSUTV General Manager, Rob Jay.

“JSUTV has a lot in store for you this fall,” Jay said. “Besides sitcoms and sports, we will have a JSU-produced newscast that focuses on local, national and JSU-related events, sports – of course — and weather.”

In addition to the convergence between television and radio, JSUTV is broadening its relationship with local churches, broadcasting services for Crossgates Baptist Church, Greater Mount Calvary Baptist Church, New Birth Fellowship and New Horizon Church International.

President Carolyn W. Meyers said, “Through this initiative, we want to tell our own story as we are enhancing the outreach of our fine university. These digital media outlets will represent our university in the best light, while respecting the traditions on which it was founded.”

JSUTV and WJSU-FM operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. JSUTV is an affiliate of America One Network and available on Comcast Channel 14. WJSU-FM (88.5) is a public radio affiliate of NPR.
