With critical thinking, verbal communication and other forms of expressions among the keys to success, the JSU College of Liberal Arts will tout the brilliance of it academic offerings at an LA Fest on Monday, March 30, with a courtyard luncheon and jazz entertainment.
During its “Who Are We?” forum, each of the college’s disciplines – Arts, Humanities, and Behavioral and Social Sciences – will explain its success in cultivating skills in research and analysis; written and verbal communication; visual literacy; and creative expression in the arts. As well, leaders will explain how faculty, staff and students impact Jackson and the global community.
Among the presentations in the College of Liberal Arts Building, Room 166/266, include:
3 p.m., Humanities: Dr. Robert Luckett, moderator, will focus on the Margaret Walker Center; Dr. Mark Bernhardt, History and Philosophy; Dr. Elayne Anthony, Mass Communications; and Dr. Rashell Smith-Spears, English and Modern Foreign Languages.
4 p.m., Social Sciences: Dr. Kathi Griffin, moderator, will comment on the Richard Wright Center; Dr. Thomas Kersen, Criminal Justice and Sociology; Dr. Dawn McLin, Psychology; and Dr. Lolita Gray, Political Science.
5 p.m., Arts: Dr. David Akombo, moderator, will cover music; Dr. Yumi, Art; Mr. Roderick Little, Music; and Dr. Nadia Bodie-Smith, Speech Communications and Theatre.
In addition, the day’s events will include an introductory video at 11 a.m.; and a noon courtyard luncheon, with music by the JSU Jazz Combo and String Ensemble. At 5 p.m., there will be a departmental open house and scavenger hunt on the Second Floor of the College of Liberal Arts.
