The Madison County Board of Supervisors has officially welcomed Jackson State University to the community.
The supervisors adopted a resolution Monday that supported JSU’s plans to open a satellite campus in the City of Madison.
JSU President Carolyn W. Meyers, Ph.D., JSU Interim Provost James Renick, Vice President of Institutional Advancement David Hoard and Interim University Communications Director Eric Stringfellow attended the board meeting. Meyers was presented with a copy of the resolution.
The resolution stated that JSU’s presence in Madison County and the university’s “concentrated academic offerings will serve to hasten the achievement of the workforce developmental goals of the Madison County Strategic Plan, and as such, are greatly desired.”
Some goals of the strategic plan include developing the county’s talent and workforce and enabling them to obtain education and training that matches the changing needs of the global workplace, according to the resolution.
The Mississippi Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning last month approved JSU’s lease agreement to open the campus, which will offer class schedules to accommodate nontraditional students.
The campus is expected to open this summer.
