Jackson State University’s Margaret Walker Center is set to host “Will there ever be justice for Emmett Till?” a conversation with Duvalier Malone, author and community activist, and Donna Ladd, editor and CEO of the Jackson Free Press, on Thursday, Feb. 06, at 6 p.m.
In February of 2017, Malone organized the “We Demand Justice Rally for Emmett Till” in his home state of Mississippi after Till’s accuser, Carolyn Bryant Donham, admitted to lying about Till whistling at her. For the last three years, Malone has traveled the country to help bring awareness to many across America regarding the importance of Till’s civil rights case.
On Feb. 6, the author will talk about his new book, “Those Who Give a Damn: A Manual for Making a Difference.” He will also discuss the history of Till’s case and his personal journey to help bring justice and awareness to it. Malone shared that he plans to highlight the importance of others joining the fight against racism, and how one can use their voice to demand justice and change.
Malone said the goal of the discussion is to use Till’s story to ignite the fire for change within the community. The same fire inspired by Till’s mother when in 1955, she held an open-casket funeral to show the world what had happened to her son in Mississippi. The author explained that the life of Till is an example of how important it is to never forget and to always speak up and out against injustices within the community.
Malone is an accomplished author, political columnist, motivational speaker, community activist and CEO of Duvalier Malone Enterprises, a global consulting firm delivering services to nonprofits and underserved communities throughout America.
