JSU’s Department of Public Safety officers have fanned out over the campus placing signage on glass entrances and other surfaces that detail mandatory COVID-19 building guidelines such as observing social distancing and wearing masks.

As Mississippi deals with a surge in infections, all students, faculty, staff and visitors are urged to adhere to requirements during this pandemic. These guidelines apply to every building on campus.

“Jackson State University Department of Public Safety is committed to maintaining the highest levels of safety and professionalism in every area of our operations. Additionally, we are committed to seeking input from the campus community on issues that will impact the university,” Capt. Janet Samuel said.

Aside from posting entrance requirements, such as six feet of distance, Public Safety is conducting daily temperature checks at checkpoints.

And, while a face covering is required in the presence of others in all indoor spaces, JSU also said face coverings will be required outside, too, when adequate social distance cannot be maintained and individuals are within six feet of another person.

So, to maintain campus-wide safety, officers are stepping up their foot patrol, mobile patrol and monitoring entrances to the campus.

“On behalf of the chief of police for JSU and on behalf of the men and women of the department, we look forward to being of service to members of the Jackson State University community and continuing to provide a safe and secure environment for each on a daily basis,” Samuel said.
