Metro Jackson Community Prevention Coalition, the JSU Graduate Student Association, and the Division of Undergraduate Studies partnered together for the 6th Annual MJCPC Bowling Night Out Event at the Metro 24 Bowling Lane on Oct. 30. The event was designed to send the message that fun is possible without alcohol, tobacco or other drugs.
According to Henry Thompson, project director at MJCPC, 53 graduate and undergraduate students showed up ready to bowl and have a good time. Some students bowled using Driving Under the Influence (DUI) goggles to illustrate the effects of driving while impaired.
“This event is very important because it links JSU, our students and the community together. It also helps our students understand that they can have fun without alcohol, tobacco or other drugs,” said Thompson. “We have to ensure that we give students the prevention education needed to make good decisions.”
Over the last six years, the JSU Campus Police have participated in “bowling night out.” This year, they challenged the JSU graduate and undergraduate students to a bowling contest. In the end, the JSU Campus Police took home the first-place trophy. Second and third place trophies went to the JSU Graduate Student Association. [imagebrowser id=53]
