“This is a part of a larger initiative by the United States and Mexico to develop a 21st century workforce for the mutual economic prosperity of both countries,” said Dr. Priscilla Slade, special assistant to the provost for academic and student affairs. “The International Programs Office at JSU is proud to play a role in this effort.”

Visiting through Dec. 15, the students are from the Universidad Tecnologica de la Huasteca Hidalguense. They arrived Nov. 17.

International Programs is participating in Proyecta 100,000, an initiative between the United States and the government of Mexico that sets the goal of 100,000 Mexican students coming to study to the United States and 50,000 U.S. students studying in Mexico by 2018.

Proyecta 100,000 proposes the multiplication of bi-national research and innovation centers, language teaching and the promotion of exchange opportunities. Proyecta also complements President Obama’s initiative, 100,000 Strong in the Americas, which seeks to send 100,000 U.S. students to study to Latin American universities and vice versa.

“International Programs is honored to participate in this project that will build a strong relationship between Jackson State University and various universities in Mexico,” said Shirley Harrison, interim director of International Programs.
