On Sunday, Dec. 4, a long-awaited event finally happened: Jackson State University’s Campus Activity Board (CAB) and the Student Government Association (SGA) held a Midnight Breakfast in the Student Center from 9 p.m. to midnight.
After the breakfast was canceled during homecoming week, students were happy to find out it would be taking place after all. With the line to get in extending out of the door, students anxiously waited to sign in to enjoy the buffet-styled breakfast along with music, games and more.
The Christmas-themed breakfast consisted of a DJ on the first floor, karaoke on the second and a live band on the third. Breakfast was served on each floor, along with hot chocolate, and the food lines stretched from end to end.
As the night carried on, students partied with the DJ on the first floor. With the music vibrating the room, they began line dancing and Greeks “strolling.” Indeed, the lively Christmas spirit was in the air, and students commented that this was one of the best social events JSU has put together thus far.
Morgan McNair, a biology major, said, “I think the Midnight Breakfast is great! It brings us together as a student body and makes us appreciate Jackson State more.”
However, one segment of party was short-lived when security and faculty shut the first floor down because the first floor of the Student Center is not a designated dancing area. This put a slight damper on the mood as students were instructed to move to either the second or third floor.
Despite the setback, students didn’t let that ruin the rest of the night. They moved to the second floor and continued to enjoy the food, game room, hot chocolate and karaoke.
Overall, they said the CAB and SGA put together a great event, and the Midnight Breakfast was a huge success.
