[hr]JSU Acting President Thomas K. Hudson was presented a $31,218 check from Mississippi State Treasurer David McRae on Friday as part of the department’s statewide effort to return unclaimed property to its rightful owners.
“Every dollar helps, and it’s always great when we can partner with the state,” Hudson said. “Unclaimed money helps us further our mission to serve our students. And we will definitely be good stewards of these funds.”
Furthermore, Hudson said receiving the funds is rather timely, especially as the university prepares to reopen in the fall. As campuses adjust their operations due to the novel coronavirus, Hudson said funds potentially would further help JSU prepare a safe, clean environment and facilities for students, faculty and staff.
The state Treasury’s Unclaimed Property Division is charged with finding owners and returning money to them from financial institutions and other sources that has languished in reserves after five years.
Individuals who may have unclaimed property should visit treasury.ms.gov and enter a last name in the search box. Then, simply click go.
