[hr]Misti A. Munroe is the new associate vice president for Business and Finance at Jackson State University. She will report to Vice President/Chief Financial Officer Howard Brown, who expressed confidence in her experience in the public and private sectors, with emphasis in finance, portfolio management, banking and alternative investments.
“I’m very excited to have Ms. Misti Munroe join my leadership team to serve as associate vice president with the Division of Business and Finance. Her eighteen years of finance experience from both the public and private sectors will be an asset as Jackson State University continues to build upon a positive financial structure,” Brown said.
Before joining JSU, Munroe was chief revenue officer for the Legislative Budget Office (LBO). However, her career in public service began as a portfolio manager for the Public Employee’s Retirement System in which she oversaw approximately $1.3 billion in alternative investment assets.
Munroe said, “I want to thank Vice President/CFO Howard Brown for extending this incredible opportunity of joining the Business and Finance team at JSU. I look forward to contributing to the team by building on the core financial principles, strategically planning for long-term success, and collaborating with leaders across the campus community to carry out the vision of the university.”
In her role as chief revenue officer for LBO, she forecasted and monitored the revenue and cash flow of the general fund and all state-supported funds, totaling approximately $6 billion. In addition, she served as an adviser to the LBO’s executive director, lieutenant governor, speaker of the House, and legislators on various revenue and legislative matters.
Also, Munroe prepared and presented the monthly revenue report to the Joint Legislative Budget Committee, legislators, state agencies, bond rating agencies and various media outlets. She also coordinated with the state economist, commissioner of revenue, state treasurer and the state fiscal officer to obtain statistical and economic data to produce comprehensive financial reports for short-term and long-term strategic planning.
Before becoming chief revenue officer, Munroe was the chief investment officer for the Office of the State Treasurer. In that capacity, she was responsible for the oversight and management of more than $5 billion in state funds throughout various investment portfolios.
Munroe earned her Master’s of Business Administration in finance from Mississippi College and holds a Bachelor’s of Business Administration in marketing from Mississippi State University.
She was named one of the Top 50 Under 40 Business Professionals in 2019 and Top 10 Leading Business Women in 2015 by the Mississippi Business Journal. In 2016, she received the inaugural State Treasurer’s Achievement Recognition Award and was also named one of Trusted Insight’s Top 30 Women Chief Investment Officers nationally.
Munroe is a member of the Hinds Community College Foundation Board of Directors and serves on the finance committee. Previously, she served as a member of the Junior Auxiliary of Rankin County; steering committee for the Metropolitan Women’s Forum; American Heart Association Circle of Red; and March of Dimes Executive Leadership Team.
