Students interested in jobs and faculty looking for partnerships in projects will welcome a series of events called NASA Days this week.
Recruiters from NASA’s Stennis Space Center, Kennedy Center and others will be talking with students through a number of workshops starting Tuesday, Oct. 21, according to Almesha L. Campbell of the JSU Division of Research and Federal Relations.
Additionally, a luncheon will be held at noon Wednesday for faculty interested in networking and exploring potential partnerships, she said.
While recruiters will primarily be looking for students majoring in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) programs, they are also interested in business and liberal arts students, she said.
The workshops start with a Pathways Program Overview from 8:30 a.m. to noon Tuesday, at the School of Engineering Building, Room 100, and from 1:15 to 4:30 p.m., at the John A. Peoples Science Building, Room 209. Students can register for the workshop when they arrive.
Tuesday, from 6-8 p.m. in the Student Center ballroom, students who have had internships with NASA will share their experiences in a panel discussion with students who are interested in exploring opportunities with NASA, Campbell said.
“We are encouraging students to come to that session,” Campbell said.
Another round of workshops for will be start at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Student Center theater for students who did not participate on Tuesday.
The NASA/JSU faculty networking luncheon will be held 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the faculty lounge in the Engineering Building.
An overview and question-and-answer session with NASA recruiters will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday in the Engineering Building atrium.
“Wednesday evening’s Q&A will be for those students who attended the workshop are interested in applying for one or more of the internship opportunities,” Campbell said.
“This will give them an opportunity to network with the NASA managers and ask questions about the opportunities. The managers will also use this opportunity to fill interview schedules,” she said.
The interviews will take place on Thursday at the Career Services Center. Students must be registered with Career Services Center in order to be eligible for interviews, Campbell said.
NASA Days will also include other meetings and a tour of the campus and a break Thursday for Founders Day.
