Velvet Brown, internationally recognized tuba player, to perform at JSU

(JACKSON, Miss.) – Nationally recognized tuba player, Velvet Brown, will perform in concert at Jackson State University at 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 27, at F.D. Hall Music Center.

Brown, a professor of tuba and euphonium at Pennsylvania State University, enjoys a career as an international soloist and chamber ensemble performer, recording artist, conductor and orchestral player. She has made regular appearances throughout Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Finland, France, England, Hungary, Slovenia, Russia, Japan, Canada and the United States. Brown is currently the principal tubist of the Altoona Symphony Orchestra and the New Hampshire Music Festival Orchestra.

Guest artist Margaret McDonald, a highly regarded pianist and assistant professor of collaborative piano at Colorado University, will join Brown.

McDonald has enjoyed an active performing career regionally and nationally as a recital partner with many distinguished artists, including the Takacs Quartet, Kathleen Winkler, Zuill Bailey, and Wendy Warner.

Brown will offer a master class to the general public and students at noon on Wednesday at the F.D. Hall Music Center.
