(JACKSON, Miss.) – Jackson State University media received 17 honors in professional and college categories during the Mississippi AP Broadcasters 2012 television and radio annual awards on April 21 in downtown Jackson.
WJSU-FM radio ranked No. 1 among colleges and No. 2 among professionals statewide for its newscasts. In addition, JSU senior Kourtney Christopher Paige garnered a special citation for outstanding performance during the ceremony attended by more than 130 broadcasters at the Mississippi Museum of Art.
In the professional category, the radio station also received recognition for its sportscast, spot news, documentary, public affairs reporting and achievement. In college radio, WJSU (along with best newscast) swept all other categories for eight awards: best sportscast, best feature story and best news story. As well, JSU TV-22, a closed-circuit station, was recognized for its stellar newscast and sportscast. Both stations are at the Mississippi e-Center.
Professional winners were Stone Abdullah, Darrell Lovett, L.A. Warren and Spencer McClenty.
The college winner also included Maurice Richardson.
