Center for Distance Learning and Instructional Technology renamed JSUOnline

Innovate Grand Opening-9408(JACKSON, Miss.) – To clearly communicate Jackson State University’s cyberlearning mission, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs James C. Renick announced on May 14 that the Center for Distance Learning and Instructional Technology has been renamed JSUOnline.

“JSUOnline expresses the full intent of the university’s advances in mobile learning,” Renick said. “The new name reflects how JSU is creating more educational opportunities for the students we serve.”

JSUOnline includes an array of online degree programs, courses, community learning platforms, trainings and instructional technologies for students and faculty.

Beginning in fall 2014, JSU will offer seven online degree programs. Those include Professional Interdisciplinary Studies, B.S.; Health Care Administration, B.S.; Childcare and Family Education, B.S. Reading Education, M.S.; Business Administration, M.B.A.; Sports Science, M.S.; and Education Administration, Ed.S.

“Our new name better communicates the university’s digital learning enterprise,” said Andrea Jones-Davis, director of JSUOnline. “It also reflects how the university is meeting the educational needs of the 21st century.”

JSUOnline is headquartered inside the Innovate faculty development center on the ground floor of the H.T. Sampson Library. Innovate is part of the library’s transformation into a digital intellectual commons and another facet of JSU’s cyberlearning initiative.
