Maxine Greenleaf, executive director of Jackson State University’s Department of Communications and Marketing, was recently selected to participate in the Higher Ed Communicators Leadership Forum hosted by Ragan Communications, a leading publisher of corporate communications, public relations and leadership development newsletters.
The forum serves as a tool for college and university communications leaders to discuss best practices, exchange ideas and network with professionals in related fields.
“It was an honor to be selected for this conference and participate in peer to peer learning,” said Greenleaf, who also notes that Jackson State was the only HBCU selected to participate.
“It is important to hear the successes and failures of our colleagues as they help to elevate higher education,” she adds.
Topics this year included how to:
- Manage great content in a system that is inherently decentralized
- Use the best tools and techniques to communicate with faculty, staff and students
- Employ brand journalism to reach audiences beyond the higher ed community
- Conduct a communications audit to establish a baseline from which you can measure your progress
- Showcase the work and expertise of your faculty
Leadership from Purdue, Yale, University of Michigan, and Michigan State were among this year’s participants.
